Who am I?

I’m Tom, I’m 21 and I’m from the West Midlands in the UK.

I’m currently fumbling around trying to figure out what it is I want to do with myself. I’ve spent most of my life so far as a student and, in the past, have studied too many different things including music, theatre, English language, English literature, psychology, sociology, astrophysics and biology. Theatre and music are the two things I wish I’d never given up on.

I absolutely adore the English language in every way, shape and form; I think our mother tongue is the most beautiful, versatile and powerful thing we have. I love the way it looks when written, the way it sounds when spoken. I wish I could learn each and every one of the other languages on Earth as well.

I find myself eternally drawn into fictional universes and doubt I shall ever really leave any of them. This is especially true of video games and books. There is something entirely irresistible about a beautifully crafted, fantastical yet strangely plausible world. Hell, I even find myself thinking about them when I’m not playing the game or reading the book. One day, I fear, I shall become lost beyond all help as the lines between my world and the worlds I love become steadily less rigid. But would that really be the worst fate that could befall me in life?

I find language in these worlds no less beautiful than in ours. Keelah, I even catch myself using snippets of fictional languages (I can only hope I never become a Trekkie; those kinds of HolQeD are a whole other kettle of bIQDep). Geh, nust kos brit ahrk morokei, nid?

And, gaming, oh, all of the gaming. There is very little I can say about the topic of video games other than I just adore them. They are stunning, they are entirely enthralling. I don’t play a specific genre; for me games are about the story. I tend to gravitate towards a beautifully crafted storyline and a well-established, intricate universe. If gaming could be my life it most definitely would be.

I respect everyone’s right to their opinions and beliefs but will rarely tolerate having it crammed down my throat. I believe that people are generally decent but think that one of life’s greatest tragedies is the propensity for the most ignorant and vile people to be the loudest.

So, hello.
